Greenwich Village Troubadour Hits the Road Again. Virtually.

Noted Greenwich Village-based folk musician Jackie Henrion sings the praises of modern-day e-commerce with an exciting new internet-based service.

Jackie Henrion, whose musical influences took root in the beatnik era, is one of the first artists to vigorously adopt promotional technology right out of the cyber age. Henrion, a songwriter, singer and guitarist known for her romantic ballads, wistful odes and introspective narratives, is one of the first full-time professional musicians to promote an entire catalog of work through LicenseQuote, an internet portal that allows artists to license music from their own websites while maintaining complete control over revenue, publicity, legal rights and other aspects of e-commerce.

“LicenseQuote allows me to sell downloads of my songs to commercial music directors in film, television and radio,” says Henrion, a 21st century musical entrepreneur with a distinct summer-of-love sensibility. “That, of course, should ultimately help me gain more exposure to a broader curve of the retail spectrum. In essence, I’ll be spreading my promotional wings farther and wider than ever before simply by travelling the virtual world of the internet.”

Henrion, a New York City resident, already has a strong following with an extensive range of original songs, many of which she often calls “musical news reports of the internal battlefields of our consciousness.” As a youngster living in Greenwich Village in the 1960s and ‘70s, she often visited Washington Square Park to listen to folksingers expressing various points of view. She was also an avid student of the piano and guitar, and counted among her family’s close friends several noted arrangers and producers. She considers Peter, Paul & Mary, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and Leonard Cohen as a few of her major musical influences. And while her own songs today are intended primarily for audiences of the Baby Boom generation, they easily appeal to people of all ages. She also regularly performs cover versions of songs by other artists. Henrion recently appeared for the third time at the famed Bitter End in New York, and regularly plays at cafes, clubs, workshops and conventions

Now, by aggressively embracing the latest web-based merchandising tools, she will be able to tap into audiences previously unacquainted with her personal yet all-embracing style of musical craftsmanship.

“Being a musician these days is like attending a university of life, where it’s important to acquire new knowledge and stretch past what we may have regarded as safe limits,” says the singer-songwriter, referring to her recent embrace of LicenseQuote into her musical life. The service will make it easier to invite more industry professionals into the Jackie Henrion fold who can help take her career to new and exciting levels.

In the press, Henrion has been called a cross between Tracy Chapman and Judy Collins, has had her work referred to as musically reflective of the poetry of Robert Frost, and has been described as a lyricist who paints introspective and celebratory pictures of love and longing. Her songs embrace a vast array of topics and emotions, such as “Cozier With No,” which describes the value of life at a slower pace (in which store catalogs can be used as firewood); “This Waltz Is Real,” in which a couple’s 50th wedding anniversary is fondly recalled; “Marie,” a whimsical story-song about a madam more than a century ago, “The Stage,” a humorous bluegrass romp about menopause, and dozens of others.

Her first album was released several years ago, and her second, “Mama Loose,” came out in 2008. Her new album, “Birthplace of Diamonds,” is due out soon.

About Jackie Henrion

Jackie Henrion has been writing and performing music since childhood, and after many years in manufacturing management decided to pursue her passion on a full-time basis, beginning in the mid-1990s. Her music is strongly evocative of the Greenwich Village folk scene of several decades ago, though it has a definitive 2010 sensitivity in the emotions and societal issues it addresses. In addition to writing, recording and performing, Henrion runs her own publishing venture, Mamaloose Music, and is also the founder of an exclusive service called Gift-a-Song that produces personalized compositions for special events.
